Elo's Erasmus Experience in Salamanca, Spain

Why did you choose to go to Salamanca, Spain?

I couldn't actually go to any other Spanish cities as part of Erasmus as I'm currently in the first year of studying a Masters in Spanish Literature and only Salamanca had a partnership with my French faculty.

How long are you there for? What financial aid do you get?

I'm here for one year, and I receive around 1000 euros from the Erasmus grant and also a regional bursary as well.

What is the student vibe like in Salamanca?

The student atmosphere is really great; we always have things to do at the weekend like Erasmus-only trips with the student organisations, or evenings out. It's awesome.

Would you recommend the city and university of Salamanca to other students?

Yes, I would recommend the university because it has a good reputation and the lecturers are passionate about their subject. The university has high standards but the teachers listen to us.

What's Spain's food like?

The food is really good, especially the region's own cooked meats. Also, there's many nice tapas bars that aren't very expensive.

Did you have any problems finding accommodation in Salamanca?

No, I didn't have any problems because there's loads of adverts and things change even during the year so there's always people looking for accommodation or a room mate.

What's the cost of living like in Salamanca?

Good question! It depends on what you do there.

What's it like learning a language there? Did you take part in any language courses organised by the university?

I've just completed my undergraduate degree in Spanish so I can't really talk about learning the language there, but I do know that there are many courses for different levels.

What's the most economic way to get to Salamanca from your home city?

It definitely has to be by plane, without a doubt.

Where would you recommend to go out in Salamanca?

A club called la Posada de Las Animas.

And to eat in Salamanca? What are your favourite places?

A tapas bar called Pan y Vino.

What cultural places would you recommend to visit?

Everything but especially the old university's library and the Old Cathedral.

Any advice for future students going to Salamanca?

Enjoy every moment!
