Discover Europe
I can speak for hours and hours about my experience in Bulgaria. I was an Erasmus student in Ruse, one of the best cities in Bulgaria. I was there for 9 months and this city and country gave me the best experience ever!
First of all I would recommend you to go there without any pre-made ideas and let the city conquer your heart.
The culture is filled with a lot of tradition. You can find typical restaurants with the people wearing traditional clothes, dancing typical dances, and serving traditional food.
The currency that they use is LEVA. And it doubles the euro, one euro equals two levas.
The restaurants are very cheap and with 4 levas, which equals €2, you can eat almost everywhere. In Ruse I recommend you the 'Godfather' which is close to the university, 'Piccadilly' in the city Centre and a small shop in which you can get the best pancakes ever!
The transport is also very cheap I took taxis almost every day and for 3 levas (€1. 50) you can go across the entire city.
For partying you have to go to 'Funky Buddha' which is in the city centre or 'Showroom' which is like 15 minutes from the university. By the way the parties in the last one are amazing.
The weather in Bulgaria is very similar to Spain, very hot in spring and summer, however very cold in the winter with temperatures going down to -20ºC. But with a good jacket or coat you can handle it. (You can trust me because I always used to be cold and I survived perfectly with a thick jacket).
