Arctic animals in Rovaniemi

Published by flag-pt Maria Silva — 11 years ago

August 17th,

Me and my mates from the EILC were taken by our dear tutors to Ranua Zoo to see arctic animals. When we got there we immediately noticed there was a chocolate shop from Fazer, we went there and it was just candy all over! And they were not so expensive as everything in Finland ;). Well, we entered the zoo and were greeted by a lovely big polar bear - not real, of course - he was there to take a photo with the visitors.

The weather was so nice and we were surrounded by green, by nature! It was lovely. We stared out our 2.5 km walk by seeing some smaller animals like rodents and pheasants. There was also the golden eagle and some owls (snowy owl, lapland owl) and they were beautiful. Owls are adobrale, right?

After we saw some birds and one of the ducks tried to eat my friend's cellphone ahaha. Then we saw and animal I don't think I had ever seen live before: the wild boar. It's like a hairy pig or something. Moving on, next was the polar bear! The biggest attraction of that place. We wanted to see them while they were still babies, but we were late. The polar bears (and bears in general) are really beautiful. And one of them was just playing with a toy in the water! That was so cute, he was coming out of the water and jumping in again...really cute :) And then the brown bear was just chilling in a corner (looking kind of sad, I felt so bad and he was adorable, you kind of want to cuddle with him because he is so big and fluffy).

Well, then we saw a lot of poro (reindeers) and bambi :) And the moose! I was disappointed because I couldn't see the real size of it, he was far away and laying down, but he looked big. Oh and then I saw the weirdest animal! I couldn't even tell what that was, but it's normal that I've never seen a musk ox eheh.

And that was it.

After the animals we went to a winery try some finnish wines and see how they make them. Cloudberry and blueberry wine. Honeslty, I didn't like it at all! But I am a bit picky, so... ;)

The souvenir shop had nice things, but I found them expensive. Instead I got a chocolate from Fazer because I wouldn't have to pack it back home eheh ;)
