Erasmus Experience in Rimini, Italy by Malak
Why did you choose to go to Rimini, Italy?
I wanted to pursue my Masters studies in the Tourism sector and I have found an interesting international program in University of Bologna (rated number 1 in Italy). I liked the program and studying in Rimini was really useful because it is a touristic city. Rimini is a city that applies mass tourism and it is a very active city during Summer.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I am not receiving any scholarship, but you can always apply for the scholarship between August and September. The maximum you can get is 5000 euros with a university fee reduction (more than 50%). Usually I receive around 750 euros for living costs but it always differs from one person to another.
What is the student lifestyle like in Rimini?
In my opinion Rimini is a posh city, unlike Bologna where you can find diversity of lifestyles. In Summer, you can enjoy the beach and nightlife. During Winter, you can start your night out on a Thursday until Saturday. Other days most of the shops are closed early. Rimini is full of bars and events but it is always advisable to join student associations and clubs so you can always know what is going on in the city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Rimini to other students?
The city is a bit expensive related to other cities. It is always a matter of lifestyle. Personally I prefer other cities such as Bologna, Roma, Florence. But a lot of people enjoy Rimini.
What is the food like?
Piadina is very familiar in this area. It is good, but not if you are having a diet!
However, we are in Italy, wherever you go you can find pizza, pasta. You can also find Japanese and Chinese places.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Rimini?
I joined Facebook groups related to accommodation in Rimini, plus EasyStanza were really useful for me. It did not cost me anything to find accommodation, but you must expect to pay around 2 months as a deposit and the accommodation of one room can cost between 200 and 350 euros.
How much does it cost to live in Rimini?
It is up to your lifestyle. The range is between 700-900 euros.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are language courses for free for the first level in September at the university. You can always find institutions, and free courses in commune of Rimini. It is not very easy to take courses in the university because most of them are overlapping with your classes especially in the first semester.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Rimini from your city?
I come from Lebanon, I must take the plane. The easiest is landing in Bologna's airport and not Rimini because it is more expensive.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Rimini?
Some clubs like Ailoviu, Coconuts and Velvet. The Barge is nice, kind of an Irish pub. Bounty could be nice sometimes for Karaoke and a pub called 365 (could be the best for watching a football game). You can always get your own drinks and stay in Piazza Cavour for a more economical and more fun evening!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Rimini?
I liked a restaurant called George by the sea, next to beach 99.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Arco D'Agusto, Museum, Pizza tre Martiri, Piazza Cavour, Italian miniatura, Ponte di Tiberio.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Rimini in the future?
For lunch, you can always go to the student restaurant, you get discount and you can eat between 3. 5 to 6. 5 euros.
Check always what you have as discounts, if you use the bus a lot get the monthly bus ticket. Take your time while searching for your apartment, and start as soon as you can. If you need more information, contact me via email.
