Erasmus Experience in Rijeka, Croatia by Martina
Why did you choose to go to Rijeka, Croacia?
Rijeka is the principal seaport and the third largest city in Croatia. It's located on Kvarner Bay and has a population of 130. 000 inhabitants. Prepare yourself for rainy and windy days and a rare period of sunny and warm days (in winter your umbrella and rainy boots are the ''must have'') Snow is also rare, but 10 kilometers from the city is located Platak, the ski resort.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Rijeka from your city?
If you come by airplane, the airport is located on the nearby island Krk. But, Rijeka is also well connected by direct trains to Zagreb, Trieste, Ljubljana, Vienna, Munich and Salzburg.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Rijeka?
You can party every day except Sundays and Mondays. On Tuesdays you have after college party in a bar called Modesto. There is a very friendly atmosphere and themed parties. The prices are student friendly, so you can have enough money for the rest of the week. It's cool that parties start at 5 pm, so you have enough time to sober yourself. Wednesday is reserved for the ''folk''music, if you like it. Then comes Thursday a student day for going out, the city is full of students and in every bar, you have reduced prices of drinks. If this isn't enough for you, you can go out in Friday and Saturday. On weekends the most interesting places for going out are the 2 clubs- boats, Marina and Nina. But, the favorite place for me is Champagne bar Pommery the very stylish place for coffee and hot nightlife. The Korzo is the place to be seen.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Rijeka?
Students have several features at their disposal at the restaurant "Index", Krešimirova 18, which has a capacity of approximately 3500 meals daily: two self-service lines, a dairy restaurant, a snack bar, a coffee bar and a pizzeria with customer service.
The restaurant “Kampus” has a developed gross area of max 6. 500 m² and a capacity of 4. 500 meals daily. It is built according to the latest technological concepts and consists of: a garage with 100 parking spots, two self-service lines, a pizzeria, a snack bar, and a coffee shop with a large terrace. The entire restaurant area has air-conditioning.
Kantina “Medicinar”
The cafeteria “Medicinar”, Braće Branchetta 20, at the University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine offers meals to students available with the student X-card or by unsubsidized payment for other visitors. It is situated in the surrounding park of the Faculty of Medicine. Only simple meals are offered, mainly sandwiches and hot beverages as well as a variety of juices due to a lesser kitchen capacity and restricted area.
