Experience in Royal Holloway, University of London, United Kingdom by Yasmin

Generally, what is Royal Holloway, University of London like?

Well, it's not a wild party university; it has an allright Student's Union and it's not too far from London, so you won't miss out on student nights. It's small so you can get around easily, and by two weeks time you'll know every face on campus. The administration is friendly and well-organized, and the facilities and accommodation are great. It can get pretty quite during the weekends as most students go home.

What are the facilities like?

I use the libraries the most, and I really wish they'd expand the study space on the grounds, because it can get so packed during exam time!

What are the tutors like?

As with all universities, even the top ones, there are great and sub-par tutors. The ones I had were fantastic, some really stood out in their passion for their field. The modules I took from the International Relations department had fantastic tutors. The tutors here are well-known in their fields of study and research, which boosts Royal Holloway's reputation for excellence.

Are the lessons easy in Royal Holloway, University of London?

I can't say, it really boils down to doing the required and background reading, and actually turning up to classes!

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

I'm not really sure of this, since I have been involved in any. I've heard of the ski trips which are massively popular.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

Yes, of course, and the teachers willing to help and listen. The teaching is University of London quality. I know the Politics and International Relations department is strong, as well as the Management faculties.

Are there any stories you can share?

Well, during my first week at Royal Holloway I was, predictably, exhausted and overwhelmed. I had registered myself for my classes but for some stupid reason, I didn't bother putting together a timetable and messed everything up, and forgot which classes I had registered for etc. I walked into my personal tutor's office, tired and breathless, and she told me to relax and compiled and printed off my timetable. Someone was always there to help me when my habitual disorganisation caused me problems!
