Situated at the main Highway
I stayed in Hotel Blafell for one night in November 2012 during a work retreat for my partner. His organization rented out the whole hotel for us for one Saturday night. The hotel is open for regular guests during the typical tourist season but closed in the wintertime and only opens for groups on request.
The hotel is right off the main highway running through Iceland and is located in the small town of Breiðdalsvík. Nearby there is fishing and hiking trails for your entertainment. The town also boasts a cafe/ bar/ gift shop, which was open during my stay.

Interior of the Hotel
The hotel provides excellent accomodations! Once you enter the hotel, you instantly get a log cabin feel. The receptionist was very friendly and informative as well. In the hotel, you will find a large dining area. In the summertime, dinner is available for purchase and offers fresh ingredients from the local area. There is also a bar where you can purchase drinks to relax in the evening. The hotel also offers a game room with air hockey tables and other such pub games. There is also a very large, nice, and cozy sitting area with a fireplace that can be lit upon request. There is also a library with books you can borrow during your stay.
One of my favorite features of the hotel was the sauna of course! It was a small sauna but served it's purpose! The sauna's opening hours are only in the evening, but if you want to use it at some other time, all you need to do is ask and the hotel staff with start it for you.
In the morning, breakfast is served. Most of the offerings are typical and include bread, meat, cheese, tomato, cucumber, cookies/biscuits, an assortment of cereals, plain yogurt, a bowl of fruit, and my favorite.. a freshly made omelet!
The room was a good size and all rooms had private bathrooms; however, public toilets were also available throughout the hotel. There was free wifi throughout the hotel and the rooms had a TV, but I never turned it on. The rooms and hotel in general was very clean and had all the amenities you could ask for in such a rural location.

A bit noisy sometimes
The one complaint I have about the hotel is the thin walls. You could easily hear the conversations (and bathrooms sounds unfortunately) of your neighbors on either side of your room. However, the hotel's owner said that they were shutting down (even to groups) from December to the beginning of the tourist season to install insulation between the rooms, so hopefully that won't be a problem in the future!
I absolutely recommend this hotel if you are traveling through eastern Iceland. It was even more superb since it was snowing during my visit. Snow + log cabin = heaven in book!
