Erasmus Experience in Reykjavík, Iceland by Sonja
Why did you choose to go to Reykjavík, Iceland?
I am living in Berlin and I was looking for a place in Europe which is the most different place than my hometown. Iceland offers a wide and varied experience more far away than from any other European place.

The scholarship was 5 months.

In one word: it's amazing.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Reykjavík to other students?
Reykjavik was the best experience in my life. And I can highly recommend everyone to see this mindblowing place.

Well... it's not that different as one could think. Some examples of the traditional food are a variety of fish, sheep head, and shark meat.

No.

Well, if you are lucky, you can get a cheap student dorm which is about 380€/monthly. But I would say in average is about 400-500€.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Language courses are available. I did one. Icelandic is a very complex language and you will for sure need at least one year to get into depth. But it was a funny experience to have an idea what the Icelandic people are actually talking about.

Go to Hell Yes Bar.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Reykjavík?
There are plenty. Reykjavik is a small place, so you get fast an idea where to go to. I recommend 'Prikid'.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Do a round trip to see the variety of Iceland.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Reykjavík in the future?
Everyone is making their own experience, so no other advice is needed. The city speaks for itself.
