Erasmus Experience in Reykjavík, Iceland by Sofia
Why did you choose to go to Reykjavík, Iceland?
I love nature, so I decided Iceland was a good country for me to experience nature and study at the same time.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship is for one semester. And I get 250 euros per month, which is not near enough to support living here.
What is the student lifestyle like in Reykjavík?
They have nice pubs and clubs. And I like to dance so I found some good places to do that. There are a lot of young people and there is always something going on.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Reykjavík to other students?
Yes
What is the food like?
They pretty much have similar foods as in Spain. But three times the price.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Reykjavík?
Yes, I recommend that you start looking for places as soon as possible. Specially if you want something affordable.

A lot. Everything is very expensive.

The language is very different. If you pay really close attention you can get some words, but not if two people are chatting.
Yes university offers language courses

Airplane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Reykjavík?
There is one street where all the night clubs are so there is no getting lost. If you want to chill and have some beer go to Dubliner (get a big table) and if you want to dance go to KiKi.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Reykjavík?
Carusso and local salad bar and for expensive food the fish market. The student cellar at the university has cheap food for students

Most of the tourist attractions are outside Reykjavik. I recommend renting a car and traveling as much as possible
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Reykjavík in the future?
Bring Warm clothes and wear lots of layers. Also very important to have good waterproof shoes, it gets very icy and slippery
