What is it like to live in Rethymno? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Yes definitely! I have been studying here for 3 years and I love it. It's safe, you can stay up late at night and go to some square or to the beach. You can meet a lot of students. The funny side is that until June we are many students. After Easter there are mostly tourists. You hardly see students in the summer.

What is the student lifestyle like in Rethymno?

Well it's a small city but it has many advantages for every student. Of course it depends on what you like but it has many opportunities for everyone.

How much does it cost to live in Rethymno?

If you don't live in the student dormitories, then you spend minimum 180 euro for a house, but it depends on the district you choose to stay. If you want to stay in the city center then it's 200-250 euros and if you want to stay in a big house then you will give 250-300. Food is cheap out and if you want to cook then it's even cheaper. You can go wherever you like by foot, except for the university where you have to take the bus. Rethymno's only transportation is bus, but you don't really need it in the city. If you want to have fun, then you should know that the prices are really good ( for example one beer is only 2 or 2, 5 euros), but if you like clubs then you will give something more than that.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rethymno? Is there any advice you can give?

Not at all, but you have to know when to search. For example if you want to come for the winter semester then you have to take into consideration that many greek students have finished school and they want to come here to continue their studies. In that case you will have a harder time. On the other hand if you want to come for the spring semester then you should know that many students get diploma in that time, so you will absolutely find something in a good price.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Rethymno is a city of Greece so.. SOUVLAKI! The good about this city is that students have many discounts. I have many favourite dishes because I like changes, so I like that Rethymno gives me choices.

What places would you recommend visiting in Rethymno?

The old city is the best place in Rethymno. You foget for a moment that you are a student and you think that you have vacations. I love the beach. You can go there to relax.

Is it good to eat out in Rethymno? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it's good! I would definetely reccomend "Diporto" and "Rakodikio" which are my favourite places because of their cooked dishes.

Is the nightlife good in Rethymno? Where is good to go?

At Friday/Saturday people of all ages are out. Some "rakadika" or bars close early(1-2 am except weekends) so if you want to go home late then your only choise is clubs. Many stores often have parties or events.

What advice would you give future students heading to Rethymno?

You can explore villages and beaches and just get close to nature. There are many beautiful bars and cafeterias or "rakadika" and clubs. You can also go to the beach or to the old town whenever you feel like it. You have many opportunities. The choice is up to you.
