Erasmus Experience in Reims (France), by Indrė
Why did you choose to go to Reims, France?
I wanted to improve French.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living expenses?
I received a scholarship for 4 months and one week. It was 550 euros/month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Reims?
I was studying at Reims Management School. The Business School has very active student organizations, and a lot of events are organized by students. I think my social life in Reims was great. I suggest to try to find an apartment (not a dormitory) and live with French students. If you do so, you will definitely improve your French and you will experience Reims differently!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Reims to other students?
I definitely recommend the city. However, if you prefer to live in a bigger and more active city, choose Paris or Lyon. I loved Reims, cause it was still near Paris, so I could go there on the weekends. Reims is not so expensive, so I could spend the money for traveling. My friend, who did his exchange in Paris, was paying an insanly high price for the apartment and didn't travel much whereas I had quite a lot of days off, so I visited many cities in France and also countries around.
What is the food like?
Amazing. French cuisine is the best. I also really liked the food at the school's canteen.
Did you had problems finding your accommodation in Reims?
No, I found it on Facebook groups.
How much does it cost to live in Reims?
I think you need around 700-800 euros. But it depends on each person.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, I had very good French classes at school. However, to take courses in a private language school is quite expensive just blend in with Frenchies!
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Reims from your city?
Tramway.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Reims?
Hemingway's, Vogue.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Reims?
There are many cozy cafes in Reims. I really liked 3 Brasseurs, but there are many more, I just don't remember the names anymore.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Champagne caves, Notre Dame of Reims Cathedral.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Reims in the future?
Try to find an apartment through Facebook Groups RMS colocation Appart' à Reims - NEOMA BS and others. French students are willing to live with foreigners as it is a great opportunity for them to improve English, for exemple.
