Last time I went to Brazil I had the luck to stay at a friend's place, who showed me many places for locals, and even drove me to Olinda: a colorful pearl.
All you have to do to enjoy Olinda is go walking. Really!
Explore every little street, every corner and every building, because no where can exist a city like this.
The houses are all painted in different and flamboyant colors, which makes every sight unique.
If you plan your trip ahead you can manage to go during the carnival, which I have been told is very popular in north east Brazil. Unfortunately, I couldn't live this experience, but we found a masks storage and we had our fun!
And don't forget that you are in Brazil: take your time to go to the beach!
