Time passes quickly
The first week
With 9 hours at work a day time passes by quickly. You go to work (actually my way to work is 20 minutes upstairs/up the mountain), pass the whole day there and when you come home at about 6 p. m. You still have to go to the supermarket, cook something, tidy up you apartment, wash the dishes, shower etc. And as I also try to learn some Arab there is not a single minute left in the evening.
Visiting a Guachinche - a traditional Canarian restaurant
So, my first week was like one day. When I noticed this, it was already half over and I met so many people, did so many things. My first Friday we went to a "Guachinche" - a typical Canarian restaurant by people who live in the mountains and grow wine. There were some former interns and the current interns going and they asked me to come, too. It was quite nice not to be alone on Friday evening, so I went with them. The food there was amazing! It's quite simple but it's so tasty. And the wine, too. Usually I am not a fan of alcohol because lately I don't feel good while drinking it, not only the day afterwards. And for me, wine had never tasted good. But the wine there was amazing. We had a lot of fun; I was happy that I met some new people and that I got to know the other interns and some people of my work a bit better. After dinner we went to the city centre in order to have some drinks and it was just a funny night - I really felt arrived in that moment.
Door problems
When I came home, I discovered a big problem - I could not open the front door of the building with my keys and it was closed (during the day the first door is always open). I didn't know what to do - it was just closed and I didn't have a key! Desperate, I sat down at a bench next to the door and almost started to cry. I wanted to sleep. In my bed. In my apartment. But it was not possible! Why me?!
After 15 or 20 minutes I thought about going to a hotel, but at 4 a. m. It was difficult I thought. Suddenly, there was somebody coming out of the building and the door was open - I could enter! I guess I've never been so happy. The next day I called my real estate agency and told her that I was locked out of the building during the night. She didn't even say that she was sorry, she just called the owner of my apartment and told her to bring the missing keys to the agency. The woman said she would throw it into my mailbox that evening.
The first weekend
So the weekend started with a problem but the rest of it was quite relaxing, because I had to clean my apartment for the first time and buy some things and I was just a little bit tired because I was not used to working the whole day. So, I went to the beach, enjoyed the nice weather and cleaned up my apartment. In the evening I met some other interns that are working at a similar company than I do, and we went into the city centre. But because the owner did not bring the keys on Saturday I couldn't stay so long because I was afraid of being locked out another time. I didn't know yet, but that was when the problems with my apartment started.
On Sunday morning I checked the mailbox and fortunately the keys where in there. So, I could go out during the night again. But as it was Sunday, I just wanted to relax and prepare myself for work the next week.
