One week of holidays
Finding an apartment
Before my internship started I had 10 days of holidays - perfect opportunity to discover the city and the small island a bit. But first I had to go to the real estate agency because I only had 2 weeks in the hotel and wanted to look for an apartment. When I arrived there, unfortunately the woman told me that it would be very difficult to find a cheap apartment because it was the end of july - high season in Tenerife (as always actually). But anyway, she showed me some studios and we agreed on two appointments in order to visit two of them.
Exploring the new home - Holidays
So the rest of the weekend was for relaxing, going to the beach and discovering my new place to live for the next 6 months. I went to the promenade right next to the sea, took a walk along the shops and cafés and stopped several times to look at the sea. I just couldn't believe that I would LIVE here. There were only tourists around me, everyone was talking English or even German to me, even if I tried hard to remember my Spanish skills from 2 years ago. But anyway, I liked it. I discovered beautiful Street Art works, nice little places, a wonderful beach and some nice shops.
Thinking about the new challenges
But as beautiful as it was, I could not ban the scary thoughts about the start of the internship from my brain. I've never done an internship of 6 months and I didn't know anything about Online Marketing. But obviously they thought I was able to do it. Hopefully, they were right. But there where still some days left! So I decided to relax, enjoy my freetime, try to remember some of my Spanish skills, maybe find some nice people (which was absolutely impossible in regard to the percentage of tourists).
I decided to visit the place where I would be working - of course just from the outside - and visited the botanical garden right next to the commercial centre. I explored the supermarket - which was full of fresh fruits from the island at that time and was searching for some shops to go shopping, but I didn't find a lot besides the standard tourist shops which I don't like at all.
Finding an apartment with Sea View
One day I visited two apartments - one next to my work, a bit up the hill and one with seaview, 50 metres away from the beach. Even if my way to work every day would be a bit exhausting and long (about 20 minutes upstairs and up the hill) I chose the one next to the beach - without knowing what was waiting there for me. But more about that later. I was happy to have my apartment, but I could not move immediately.
Santa Cruz
So I decided to go to the capital of the island - Santa Cruz. It was only 30 minutes by bus and I could see a bit more from the scenery during the drive. Once arrived I was walking around a lot - visiting the Auditorio, a nice concert hall right next to the sea in form of a wave, the twin towers, a sea water swimming pool, the old city centre and of course the shopping street. After having taken a million of pictures, having bought some nice clothes (there was not so much space in the suitcase so it was absolutely necessary!), being half death because of the heat and having seen a large part of the city, I decided to drink a coffee and relax a while. After that I went shortly to Corte Inglés, but as it's quite expensive there I returned to the bus station and took the next bus back home to Puerto de la Cruz.
The following days I was more or less relaxing, trying to get some colour to my skin and enjoying the nice weather. On Saturday before my first day of work I could move into my new apartment - and I loved it! But I decided to stay in the hotel for some more days, as it was already paid and my supervisor would fetch me there at my first day. And finally it was there - my first day of the internship...
