What is it like to live in Pristina? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Pristina is the capital and largest city of Kosovo with a population of less than 1/4 million. It is the administrative center of the homonymous municipality and district. Here people are so friendly and open to meet a new friends.
What is the student lifestyle like in Pristina?
The campus is in the center of the city, with direct access to every neighborhood.
How much does it cost to live in Pristina?
If you stay in a cheap shared flat and behave economically, I guess you are fine with about 500 euro for month (200 euro rent, 100 for food, 50 for university feed, 100 for going/drinking/eating/movie once a week or so).
But it depends totally on your lifestyle of course I got with 500 euros quite easily.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Pristina? Is there any advice you can give?
No, it isn't difficult, because the people in Kosovo are so friendly. The kind atmosphere in Kosovo is amazing. Everywhere you go, people greet you respectfully and ask how you are. They might ask in three to five different ways how you are, before they will start talking, just smile if you don't understand the question.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Feeling hungry? You can't never forget the smell of grilled meat and various salad made here in the traditional restaurants, the restaurants are almost like buildings who look like castles. Kosovo is the place where we can eat for very cheap and good. A good thing to try kebab. For just a euro or a bit more, they offer you fresh bread, meat and vegetables.
You can find a qebabtore on every street corner. Kosovo has traditional food, like sarma, burek, pies, flija, burjan.
Most of the cooking consist of homemade traditional food. When you eat kebab or burek you should try it with yogurt, it is delicious.
What places would you recommend visiting in Pristina?
Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe, and that means young people everywhere. So you never have to search longer than two minutes to find bar or café. Some book station, Half&Half, Princ coffe shop, Lips, Metro, Dit' e Nat' book coffee etc.
Is it good to eat out in Pristina? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
The dishes in the Restaurants is traditional and internacional food, in Pristina, there are many restaurant that serve delicious food like: Rings, Sach pizza, Pizza Hut, Taverna Dardha, Trosha, Caffe Pizzeria Papillon etc.
Kosovo, as a result of Mediterranean climate is known for grape growing and production of a variety of red and white, the types of wines from Stone Castle are very good.
Is the nightlife good in Pristina? Where is good to go?
In Pristina, there are so many places to have fun, nightlife. There are Hamam jazz bar, Depot or Strip Depo, Laung bar, Oda theatre, the Cuban bar, etc.
What advice would you give future students heading to Pristina?
My advice for the students who like to heading to Pristina is to visit some parks like Germia, old park of the city, and to go out of Pristina to visit other city of Kosovo:
Peja to visit beautiful mountains in Rugova Valley, a stretched mountains range with water, waterfalls and you can visit this national park just for free, with a car, bike or feet.
Prizren too is an old and beautiful city, every year in August, there is a dokufest.
Brezovica is a ski resort in the stunning Sharr mountains above Prizeren. If your interesting to experience something new and attractive and active, here are some ideas that you can try and get to enjoy like: Hiking, most of the territory of the national parks is wonderful to explore and get relax, Hiking Njeri is an organised public trip hiking per week, the price is about 10 euros per person.
