Erasmus Experience in Prague, Czech Republic

Why did you choose to go to Prague, Czech Republic?

I chose Prague for several reasons:

1. It is the capital, therefore there are many concerts, shows and parties.

2. It is beautiful, sometimes it seems like you're in Disneyland.

3. In general, living in Prague is cheap.

4. The transportation is very well organized.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive for help?

The scholarship is for six months, and I actually receive very little money (about 300 euros a month) but with that money you can survive in Prague without problems. Of course, residences for students is much cheaper.

How is the student life in Prague?

The atmosphere is great, plus I am lucky to be part of the Czech Technical University (CTU), where the ISC always has something organized for students each week.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Prague to other students?

Absolutely! Although Czechs have their own...

How is the food in the country?

The food is not bad at all, nothing like our food, but the food is good and cheap. However, for a vegetarian it is a bit hard to live here, there is always meat in the dishes.

Did you struggle to find housing in Prague?

No, I requested residential housing and the university gives you all the paperwork and they assign you themselves. If you are also on the technical campus, the best is Masarykova!

What does it cost to live in Prague?

To eat, with 150 euros / month you live like a king. The transportation is very cheap, there is a pass for 3 months (700-800 CZK), which allows you to use any type of transport in Prague. If you like to party, the best thing to drink is beer.. cheaper than water!

The housing depends on your preferences, I am supposedly in the most expensive residence on my campus and it costs 140 euros per month... apartments usually cost the same as those in Spain (200-300 per person).

What about the language? Did you take a course at the University?

There are free courses, but to live here you really only need to know a few words. Most young people are fluent in English.

What is the cheapest way to get to Prague from your city?

From Seville the best was Vueling :)

What places do you recommend for partying in Prague?

Chapeau Rouge, Cross Club, Roxy Club, Sasazu Club, Mecca Club!

What about eating in Prague? Can you mention your favorite places?

The food is generally expensive, especially if it is Czech. I do not have a favorite place, but everywehere is good, avoid those at tourist sites!

How about the culture?

As a cultural visitor, it is a beautiful city. Very romantic and charming. Highly recommended for couples. But it is also great for young people, there is always something to see / do!

Do you want to give any advice to future students in Prague?

It is a very safe city, there are usually no problems whatsoever. But, they hate rudeness and Spaniards have a reputation of being so! Don’t speak loud, but softly (if you can, say good morning and thank you in Czech), always stay orderly and try to go unnoticed, you will be just like the Prague!
