What is it like to live in Plymouth? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Very nice place, you get the urban city, fantastic scenery and the coast. There's loads to do, it's very spacious and open planned, there's a real mix of old and new architecture- because it was heavily bombed during WWII. When the weather is nice, there's loads of great places to visit, and there's a lot of restaurants to eat at. The price of living is exceptionally cheap.

What is the student lifestyle like in Plymouth?

Everyone lives within at least 20 minutes of university, the city is full of students. Where everything is so close together, you never need public transport, it's all walking distance away!

How much does it cost to live in Plymouth?

It can be as cheap as £60 a week for a place with all the essentials. Most of them are close to the uni and/or shops, so you seldom spend money on public transport. Even then, the distance is so short you wouldn't be spending much. It's generally a pretty cheap place to live in.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Plymouth? Is there any advice you can give?

You'll have no problem sorting out accommodation, the accommodation office at Plymouth can help out, and there's plenty of housing. (I'd go with the housing, halls of residence from the university are pretty expensive! )

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There're some great places to eat dotted around in Plymouth, my favourite place is the Caffeine club, it's pretty cheap, but there's great food, it's got a great atmosphere- and is pretty quirky place. Take a look at the monster menu, where you can get huge (and I mean huge) burgers! You can get 2ft long hot dogs and 2 pint milkshakes (which are amazing! )

Is it good to eat out in Plymouth? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It depends what you want, if you want something fairly cheap, any where is fine, Sizzal is a really nice buffet place down on union street. Buffet city is also pretty good (but not as good) My favourite place is caffeine club. If you want something more fancy Rhodes the dome, right by the Hoe is a really nice place, and all over the barbican there are some fantastic independent restaurants. If you want to go for an even fancier meal, go to the Royal William Yard, although, there's nothing else to do round there, apart from eat (and see some boats of course)

Is the nightlife good in Plymouth? Where is good to go?

The night life is pretty good, it can be really cheap or expensive, depending on where you decide to go. The SU is great, very cheap, it has only recently been re-decorated. North hill, literally less than 5 minutes walk away from the SU is also fantastic, it's just a road full of bars/clubs. All of which are relatively small, but they're nice, and fairly priced. There's also cuba to end the night on, closing at 5am, and placed very close to student accommodation, it's often the favourite club to finish at. Larger clubs are a loser walk away, Walkabout is good on Wednesdays, drinks are cheap, and it's a student night. There's a few clubs dotted about in that area too. Oceana, a massive place, a long walk away is nice, but it's often filled with horrible people. The drinks are a major rip off, I'd go once to see what you think. But personally, once was enough for me.

What advice would you give future students heading to Plymouth?

Enjoy it, it's a large space with lots to do, go for walks around the place everyday, and it won't take long at all before you're familiar with everything. It's a great place for running and pretty low on crime. It's a safe quiet place- so if you enjoy nice scenery, walks, and nights out this could be great. It has all the perks of a city, minus the huge crowds, price tags and the stress that comes with them.
