Experience in Piura, Peru. By Alessandra.
What is it like to live in Piura? Would you reccommend it? How is it?
If you like tranquility, a family atmosphere and rich food! It is the ideal city, it is the city "of eternal heat". The weather is so warm that it reflects within the people. It is a small place, where most people know eachother, they always make good friends! If you like the heat, the beach is 30 minutes away and it is so quiet, rustic and totally relaxed! The closest beaches are Yacila and Colán, but if you want to go a little bit further out, there is Máncora and Lobitos which are really familiar for the windsurfers. There are also beaches that are a lot smaller, without houses, they are deserted but beautiful.
15 minutes away from Piura is the town of Catacaos, it is full of art. They work with ceramics there as well as silver and gold in "filigrana". They are beautiful: there are earrings, ornaments, bracelets, and everything else you want to find!
What is the student life like in Piura?
The most well-known University is the University of Piura (UDEP), and it is really beautiful, open, with gardens and in terms of academics it is really good, but the University life is better. If you do inter-mural sport, there are always parties where each faculty competes in sport, art and all the disciplines that you can imagine in order to say that YOUR faculty is the best! It is a whole week of football, basketball and volleyball matches, as well as dance and more! There is even a pram-race, it is really fun, colourful and a big party!
Furthermore, each faculty, the classes that have already finished create all new and different activities for the graduation party, so there is always something different to do!

Due to it being a small place, a province, life is not really expensive.

There are pensions for all students everywhere, and the majority are quite agreeable, the University releases this data. As well, almost everyone knows everyone, so people give you good tips.
Whats the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Northern food! The great envy of everyone! Off the top of my head, ceviche! 100% Northern, home made, the best! Green tamales, yum! Tacu Tacu, dried meat, and seasonal meat! The names are a bit strange, but you won't regret trying them!
