The Grand Canyon is situated in the United States, more precisely in the state of Arizona. It is a huge canyon, that is about 450 kilometres long and is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It gives you the most spectacular views and is one of the most visited national parks of the United States.
If you visit the national park and get the first glimpse of the view on the immense canyon it will literally take your breath away! I personally have never seen a place that looks so unreal even when you stand in front of it. It is such a scenery view that you feel like actually standing in front of a huge photo wallpaper! The canyon seems infinite and with its layers of colourful rocks and the Colorado river flowing through it, it seems really too beautiful to be true.
When I visited the Grand Canyon we did a day trip to the canyon, to take a hike and enjoy different viewpoints. There are plenty of trails to take hikes in the national park, easier and shorter ones and more challenging and longer trails. We took one that went down to the valley of the canyon and which just took about two hours down and two up again. It was really a great place to take a hike with many beautiful spots to take pictures. Sometimes you even get to see some animals like deers or little gnawers.
Later we took a bus to another part of the canyon, to get an other view on the National Park. I think there are plenty of beautiful outlooks that buses and trails lead to around the whole canyon. Also if you have a little more money available you can take a helicopter ride over the canyon and they even offer canoe and rafting tours through the Colorado River.
If with a tour or just exploring by yourself and by foot: the Grand Canyon is a unique place, of which you don't find a similar one anywhere else in the world. Just make sure to take enough water if you go, especially in summertime it will be incredibly hot there! And of course take a camera, because here you will find views that are worth keeping as a great memory!
