Experience in Perugia, Italia by Rachel
What is it like to live in Perugia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
The life in Perugia is very good for students. The city is full of Erasmus students and Italian as well. It is a relatively small city, and doesn't have many choices for parties or bars but the Erasmus guys always find a way to enjoy together.
What is the student lifestyle like in Perugia?
The atmosphere for students is great, you can see students everywhere.
How much does it cost to live in Perugia?
I would say around 500 euros per month if you want to live well(rent and food included).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Perugia? Is there any advice you can give?
There is a great Facebook page called "Affitti studenti Perugia", also a lot of Erasmus choose the idea to take a dormitorio at the beginning, in that case I would recommend the "Agraria" dormitory or the "Innamorati" because a lot of Erasmus go there and it's easier to make friends.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Like in every place in Italy the pizza and pasta are the main food. Another special food to try is the "torta al testo" which is a very special type of "sandwich". Perugia also has the "Perugina" chocolate factory, so visit there is recommended as well as the "Eurochocolate", the official chocolate festival of Perugia in October.
What places would you recommend visiting in Perugia?
The city center is nice, chocolate factory, Lago Trasimeno(a lake 30-kilometre far from Perugia), and maybe the nice villages around.
Is it good to eat out in Perugia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
The pizzerias "Mediterranea" or "La Romantica" have very delicious pizza and cheap prices. Also there is a small place called "Dolce notte" that serves really good pastries after 7 in the evening, great place to visit after you go out all night.
Is the nightlife good in Perugia? Where is good to go?
City center, the IV November Square's stairs, full of students almost every night in Perugia.
What advice would you give future students heading to Perugia?
Winter is not the best time to come, it's cold and empty, but summer is the best time, there is "Umbria jazz" festival, and a lot of people in the streets, especially at the stairs, in the evenings, drinking beer, playing the guitar and meeting new people.
