What is it like to live in Palermo? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Palermo is a wonderful city in the South of Italy. It is rich in Architecture, Art and Culture. Gastronomy is excellent and it is not much expensive. Unfortunately, means of transport and local administration are very poor. Citizens try to do their best and keep going on by themselves because Government is not of any help.
What is the student lifestyle like in Palermo?
Student lifestyle is very good! Palermo by night is very exciting and it is full of pubs, clubs and hanging out people approximately every evening/night. It is also rich in public libraries, museums and art.
How much does it cost to live in Palermo?
Palermo is not very expensive (200 euro for rent approximately). But you need to be careful about cheaters.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Palermo? Is there any advice you can give?
It is easy to find accommodation. There are many real estate for rent, expecially next to the university. You only need to look around surfing the web. Look for the following keywords: camera studenti affitto apparamento università viale delle scienze via ernesto basile. There are also several useful websites. Give a look at http://www.subito.it.
What is the food like? What are your favorite dishes?
Palermo, like the whole of Italy, is famous for its food. You need to try our fish, seafood and "panino con panelle".
What places would you recommend visiting in Palermo?
Historical city center is very interesting. But also Mondello and all the surrounding area.
Is it good to eat out in Palermo? Can you tell us your favorite spots?
Restaurants in Palermo are good.
Is the nightlife good in Palermo? Where is good to go?
The best places where to find fun and young people are "Chiavettieri", "Magione", "Piazza Marina", "Vucciria". They are all in the city centre, the historical part of it. It is full of young students who like to stay around in the street, drinking and chatting. People use to stay in the street in spite of inside the pubs, because the weather is good almost the whole of the year, in Palermo. And anyway it is fashionable.
What advice would you give future students heading to Palermo?
Unfortunately most citizens in Palermo, students included, cannot speak English. This is a good chance to learn Italian!
