Art in Norway... Erotic in Spain?

You may ask of what bullshit I'm talking about with this title. True? (otherwise, my attempt to shock failed). Well, I will tell you about Vigelandsparket or the Vigeland park, which is no more and no less than Oslo City's biggest park (patapeeeesh - or the sound of symbols).

That isn't its real name, but it is named so because it houses more than 200 of the sculptor, Gustav Vigeland's sculptures, who came to an agreement with Oslo city. Because of his, he dedicated the last 20 years of his life to sculpting and shaping everything that decorates the park. On his death, his house was converted into a museum and the park, into a permanent exposition of all his work.

The park is certainly enormous and very beautiful. I would personally highlight three areas. The first of them is the one of the upper part where the... phallus? is found, composed of intertwined human bodies. Heaps of statues are located around this, all human and naked, interacting with each other. Some have extremely amusing expressions.

If you go down, you will later encounter the second part, composed of the fountain sustained by more human statues and finally, the bridge which is guarded by more statues on both sides, also with amusing and suggestive figures.

Now then, here comes the explanation of my entry's title: erotic. This is how many Spanish people view the Vigeland park. It's not because I believe that we the Spanish are bulls on heat that don't see past a giant phallus shaped statue, but otherwise because visiting it confirmed it.

My friend Jose Carlos happily commented that he liked the park a lot but it would be impossible to put it in Buñol (where he is from) because there, there would be talk of everything other than the symbology that the statues could have. There would be loads of jokes, come on.

Then my brother who, as if he were an adolescent, hasn't gotten tired of making jokes about the same thing as well as the indecency of the bodies and the postures. I even believe that he even made some illusion to paedophilia, due to the fact that there were children playing with adults.

That's to say that yes, Vigelandsparken is a very pretty place but if you're Spanish, you now know what you can find, so clean up your way of seeing things before going because you will not see a single dressed marble statue.

Do you want to know how to get there? I will explain it to you. It's veeeeery easy.

As well indicated in this map, you can catch the T-Bane and get off at Majorstuen, which is the last common metro stop on this side of the city of ALL the lines, so there are no excuses. From there, if you don't mind walking for 10 minutes, you can get on and off by all of Essendrops gate. The truth is that it's not difficult. It's very intuitive. If you're one of those people who doesn't like walking, well then... At the stop of the Majortuen station, you will find the number 12. Catch it. There are only two stops as also shown in the map (Vigelandsparken).

If you go to Oslo, visit Vigeland because it's worth it. In Winter, it's beautiful as you can see in the photos, although well, if you go in Summer maybe you'll enjoy it more for that green-green and the sun cascading down upon the coconut trees.
