A student Trip to Norway can be cheap
If I say to you that Norway is the most beautiful country in the world, everyone would agree with me on this. However, most of you have actually heard that it is too expensive to travel to Norway, and since you are still a student your budget would never be good enough to take you to a three-day trip to the capital, Oslo. What if I would tell you that with less than 100 euros you could afford a weekend trip to Oslo with all the expenses included, what would you say? Please share with us more information, and this is why I am writing this very informative blog: all the information that I will share with you in this blog is based on personal experience which I had last summer.
A plane ticket for only 10 €?
The first thing that will pop up in your mind the first time you hear of Norway is the distance, you picture Norway in the far Noth of Europe, you think that you would spend lots of money on a plane ticket. Let me tell you that one of the cheapest plane tickets in Europe is one that you get from Danish and Norwegian airlanes, where you can find a one way ticket for only 10 €. Here, I recommend using the Skyscanner app to find the best offer. So, we are done with finding the best deal for a flight ticket to Oslo.
Free accommodation!
Now your next worry is finding where to spend your nights. Most of you would think that it is super expensive to spend a night in a hotel, which is true, so, to solve that, I can suggest a free cozy and welcoming home for you, for real. So, what you can use to find free housing is an app called Couchsurfing. You will have to create a profile and upload all of your personal information, and you can look for Youtube videos concerning that if you want to learn more. Once you complete everything in the app, you can then start sending requests to different hosts, asking them kindly to welcome you in their private house. Now, some of you will ask "is it that safe? "
I will reply by saying that it's relatively safe, after all it is your choice. I tried this service in ten diferent countries, and in all of them I was satisfied and even happier with my desicion, since I got to discover very interesting people from different parts of the world, we had a quality conversation about our countries, culture and traditions, etc. What I want to say is that if you are a real traveler and you value quality experiences then you should probably consider using this service. Coming back to our topic which is spending less money in our trip to Oslo, now the only thing left is what you are going to eat to keep you going during the day. So, personally, I was lucky to have a very kind norwegian host who cooked for me the whole time I was there, and let me tell you that you will enjoy the experience more if you decide to give your time to cook or just to sing a national song, also you can bring a gift with you to look kind and gentle.
You're coming to Norway to discover the viking culture and see the beautiful nature, so I will share with you my favotites places which I have seen while being there.
Oslo Nature tour: visit to the Island
Rambling in the nature, sharing stories, hopping on and off the local ferries, and even going for a swim, are you excited yet?
I advise you to take a tour in the beginning of June, it would be nice and warm! The ferry rides provided a nice rest from walking, along with cool breeze. The islands you will be visiting are so interesting and pretty... And the best experience I had was walking through forests, meadows, near little beaches and a long-gone church site. For the food I prepared a sandwich to avoid buying expensive food from the cafe on one of the islands.
This small tour is so much fun. You are never out of sight of the center of Oslo, but it feels like a world away because the islands are so peaceful and quiet. Great way to spend an afternoon while in Oslo.
A walking tour around the capital
With more than 1, 000 years of history, there is a lot to see in Oslo.
As a fun way to see some of the city highlights and learn a bit of history I recommend using the bicycle, especially if you have limited time. You will get to see the Vigeland Sculpture Park (all those naked statures, what a novelty! ), Akershus Fortress, City Hall, Oslo's Opera House, etc.
The Oslo Opera House
Oslo's Opera House is located right at the harbour, with an angled, white exterior that appears to rise from the water. It invites its visitors to climb its roof and enjoy panoramic views of Oslo and the fjord all year round.
Finally, I hope that this information is helpful and I encourage you to travel and see this marvelous country. Personaly, my trip to Oslo was one of the most exciting and valuable trips I have ever done. Remember, money can never be an excuse for a real traveler who has the skills and the solution oriented mindset, go and choose a day in June to travel to Oslo.
