Erasmus in Osijek, Croatia
I have no words to describe my Erasmus experience in Osijek for 5 months(september-february). It's definitely your destination if you are lookig for a not really big city (bit more than 100.000 habitants), a place where you can go anywhere by walk, close people, beautiful sunsents along the Drava river, peaceful atmosphere but student lifestyle too ..
The best thing has been the international atmosphere that we created, it's been amazing share 5 months with italian, polish, portuguese, austrian, croatian, mexican and spanish people. This is the main difference from going on Erasmus to a capital such as Zagreb, where is more common to hang out just with people of your own nationality.
Local people is really kind; they are interested in people from other countries so don't worry if you are walking outdoors and someone stop you just because of curiosity!
The biggest drwaback in my experience was the covid-19 because finally all the bars, clubs and restaurants closed but we partied in our houses anyway. (the first month and a half everything was opened and it was the craziest time of my life, amazing)
In referred to travelling around, we couldn't visit other countries because they asked for PCR.. but we made a few road trips to the sea side (you must go!). Renting cars is very cheap and an easy way to travel in groups.
Pd. Croatian people from the ESN are suuuper nice, don't hesitate to meet with them because you wil make friends for life and learn a lot from the country.
Pd2. If you are going in the first semester as I did.. It will be cold (specially december, january and february) but don't worry beacuse there are second hand and cheap shops to buy winter clothes, and ofc beer and wine to warm you up.
If you go to Osijek, I hope you enjoy as much as I did <3

Hello, I'm thinking of going to Croatia next year, but someone told me that most subjects were in Croatian, instead of English. Is it true or did you have most of the subjects in English?

Heyy, well that depends on your studies!
All the subjects are in English for Erasmus students but the thing is that in not all of them are enough students to organize a class, so you could have particular classes with the teacher and he tells you what to do to pass.
Maybe you'll have online/presential classes with more students, or particular ones, or just to do a seminar and a presentation. Anyway, there is nothing to worry about.
Teachers are very very kind with Erasmus students
