Olympia Museum 2: Highlights
This is the second part of the Archeological Museum of Olympia!
A rare find enriches the collection: The helmet of Miltiades! (It is signed hence we know it is this one.) Miltiades was a famous well-educated general who played a crucial role in beating the Persians at Marathon in 490 BC (read Herodotus).
This is the remainder of a battering ram, namely its iron head. Strong siege weapons!
Here we see a battle scene between gods and centaurs, very dramatic! The realistic sculptures are at the height of craftsmanship ...
This is Atlas carrying the sky and Hercules getting the golden apples of the Hesperides from him, which he needed to complete his 12 labours.
Here finishes the part on Olympia, and we moved on ...
