Antibes

Antibes is a small coastal city, (of which there are such an abundance of in the areas surrounding Nice) which is situated in between Nice and Cannes. The most affordable way of getting there from Nice is catching the bus from the bus station next to the Masséna (you can also get there by tram and get off at the stop Ópera-Vieille Ville). It is the 200 bus and it costs €1 (because the transport pass isn't valid here). The stop you have to get off at at in Antibes, I don't know the name of; but I do know that we got off in a square with a water fountain (one of those coming from the ground), which was just in front of the Tourism Office.

Obviously, you should do no more than go to said tourism office and inform yourselves on the best places you can visit. I recommend leaving this trip for a sunny day in order to have a picnic on the beach or something (this means coming in summer or spring). We were thinking of going for a picnic and enjoying the good weather that there had been for the ultimate few weeks. However it seemed the weather decided that it would be best for the sky to cloud over and the sun didn't come out once. It didn't matter much to us and we enjoyed it all the same, so oh well.

Like any other city in the Cote D'Azur, Antibeses charm is in the old part and the beaches. Wander around the alleys, the buildings, the lampposts... All of it seems to have a story to tell. For book lovers and for those who love the language of Shakespeare, don't forget to look for a little English book shop with good book offers (10 books for 3 euros, and so on) when you arrive at the port. Of course, don't expect the latest best-sellers. Otherwise expect books that nobody has heard of.

Afterwards, I recommend going on a walk around the port, watching the boats; as much so along the old footbridge as along the dock itself - and of course, you can't miss seeing the great sitting man statue (Jaume Plensa), because it's a MUST in Antibes. You can enter inside it, clime it, take photos from one side to the other with your face amongst the letters... Truthfully, it's a super entertaining place and you will have a good time fooling around here.

Well Antibes also has a Picasso Museum, but entry is 6 euros and truthfully, we didn't want to spend this little bit of money. We will see in the next visit if we feel more extravagant or not. It also has a small, very pretty church next to this museum, in which you can also take photos! This is a plus for me because it annoys me a lot that you can't take photos inside churches (obviously we wouldn't take them in the middle of mass, but otherwise when it wouldn't annoy anybody and with the uppermost respect, but whatever... ).

Antibes also has an archaeology museum, parks and seaside walks, which are very well known but as it wasn't an appropriate day, we decided to leave it for another time when there would be better weather. The next time I go, I will add more information about this little town.

Overall, Antibes is a city that you should visit if you are on Erasmus in the Cote D'Azur and if you come during summer, don't forget your swimsuit because it's a certain that you'll fancy taking a dip at least once!
