Hello all!

I have to apologize, this post was supposed to be 100 % about Rochester, but I guess I left my soul somewhere around New York. I'm feeling like I must show the world, show you what a lovely place I have been to. So here are some more highlights of the city. Enjoy the view!

The only question left was if there is anyone capable to live in these steel and glass buildings an entire life. Manhattan is full a skyscrapers, but I think they are just companies, habitat of business-men and other 'important' people. I can't imagine that living is possible in such an environment. Our hotel's (Hotel Pennsylvania) windows couldn't be opened at all, and the only way of airing was through a ventilator. We also couldn't see the street from our floor, because our room was too high.

Of course there are livable parts of NYC though (in the suburbs), but Times Square is definitely not one of them. Times Square is a cavalcade of stores, a jungle of 3D advertisments. Various activities done by various people: selfie-maker Japanese tourist-groups, sightseeing companies' kind tourist guides, business-men drinking coffee and suspiciously reading their New York Times. Political demonstrations and processions are held in this place too.

Cool, after you've been walking down the street and leave the crowded square behind, you find yourself on an ordinary New Yorker street, with less bustle, and great brunch places and cafés. And souvenirs, like the following ones:

I didn't find NYC enormously expensive, it wasn't more expensive than any Western-European country, and it was way cheaper than London. However I refused to buy any of these nodding US politician 'dolls'.

The day passed, and due to a little light pollution we didn't even realize that it was getting late. We had to leave, and chose to travel by Megabus towards Rochester. I warmly recommend traveling by this company's double-deckers, because they are cheap, and they have lot of routes across America. Our journey from New York to Rochester lasted 4. 5 hours, but the view compensated.

Rochester is located close to the 5 great lakes of North America: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior, only 20 minutes distance from lake Ontario. On our first day we automatically were picked-up by Nazareth College's vans, and transported to the campus, but in my next post I'll write details about the city.

P. S. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm not a professional photographer.

Thanks for reading. Dóra.
