Experience in New Paltz, United States by Rachel
What is it like to live in New Paltz? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
New Paltz is an incredible town, filled with extremely accepting people. I would recommend the place to anybody. It is a small town, but main street is full of tons of fun things-- cute antique shops, a bunch of bars, a lot of restaurants and fun little family-owned places.
How much does it cost to live in New Paltz?
Off campus, the typical monthly rent is between $575-$675
Is it difficult to find accommodation in New Paltz? Is there any advice you can give?
Not necessarily, there are a ton of places that rent to students and lots of apartment complexes that students look into. The school's page has a link to "off campus housing" that I think is pretty helpful.
Is it good to eat out in New Paltz? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes! New Paltz has a ton of delicious places to eat. It depends what you're looking for, but there's anything from bar type food (hamburgers, fries, etc.) to Thai and Mexican food. There's a really delicious hotdog and hamburger place called "HD Dicks" that I would recommend to anybody-- it's family owned and they're SUPER nice there. Also, there's an Irish pub called "Shea O'Briens" which has absolutely amazing dishes.
Is the nightlife good in New Paltz? Where is good to go?
The night life is mostly good if you're at least 21 years old, as the bars are the best places to go. If you're into the dancing seen, P&Gs is definitely the place for you. If you'd rather just hang out and talk at the bar, Shea O'briens or 'Cuddy's is a good place. If you're into loud bands and rocker sort of music, Snugs and Oasis are a fun place.
What advice would you give future students heading to New Paltz?
Get ready, you're going to have the best time of your life.
