Naples: Transport issues

Every tourist or Erasmus student at least once can clash with the problem of Campanian transport system. It’s really quite difficult to handle it! Let’s see which problems may appear:

  1. I bought a ticket for my train, but a controller said that it’s not applicable for my train;
  2. I took the train to Caserta, but it brought me to Sorrento (I wish everyone to take occasionally such happy trains!);
  3. I took a train on the right time, but it started to move with 20 minutes delay;
  4. I was waiting, but train didn’t arrive at all.

Certainly the list of the problems is not complete, but let’s try to deal with that. The fact is the services of local public transport are managed by the different companies integrated into unified tariff system called Unicompania. Every company has its own type of vehicles, tickets and destinations. To get confused is easy as shooting fish in a barrel! I provide you the list of main transport companies in Naples:

  • A.N.M. (above-ground transpot: buses, trams and trolley buses);
  • A.N.M. – previously Metronapoli (1 and 3 metro lines; funiculars);
  • Trenitalia (railway – 2nd metro line);
  • Sepsa (Cumana and Circumflegrea railway lines);
  • Circumvesuviana (railway line going to the east out the city);
  • Metrocampania Nord-Est (railway lines to north-east of Campania);
  • CTP (Suburban bus).

What about delays and absences of trains, unfortunately it’s nothing to do about it. In southern Italy such situations happen quite often. From time to time the transport strikes take place in Naples, at least people usually receive notifications about them in advance.

Solution A – rational; come into the station in a good time with thought-out alternative plan;

Solution B – keep calm and relax! Naples is not only about the transport, there are so many reasons to fall in love with it!

By the way, in February 2018 all the city got mad: it’s started the snow in Naples for the first time after 62 years! So usual weather conditions in my country became a real disaster for Naples – airport, buses and trains stopped to function, many people decided that this day is too hard to work and decided to stay at home…quite funny!
