Why did you choose to go to Münster, Germany?

Because I study languages and I wanted to study in a part of Germany where Hochdeutsch (Standard German) is spoken.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship was for 6 months and I received 230 euros per month.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Münster to other students?

Absolutely yes. The university is one of the best universities in Germany and I think Münster is a perfect city for student. It's not too big nor too small. Don't forget to buy a bike. Once you have one till become your best friend there.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Münster?

No. I used one of the many internet pages for accommodation (WG-GESUCHT). But I have to say it was hard to find a room because there are really a lot of students in Münster.

How much does it cost to live in Münster?

I would say about 500 euros per month (accommodation and other costs).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

German is for sure not an easy language to learn but that was the reason why I went to Germany for my Erasmus. WWU offered us an intensive language course (two weeks before the beginning of lessons) and a semester language course (twice a week 1 h and a half each) from which I got 6 ECTS.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Münster from your city?

A direct flight from Palermo to Düsseldorf Weeze airport (it's quite far away from Münster but tickets are very cheap because of Ryanair) and then a bus (to Kevelaer or to Weeze HBF) an 2 trains (one from Kevelaer or from Weeze to Düsseldorf HBF and then one from Düsseldorf HBF to Münster HBF). It's possible to buy a daily ticket (Schöner Tag) valid from midnight to 3 a. m. of the next day for all regional means. There's the ticket for one person about 28 euros and the group ticket 41 euros (up to 5 people).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Münster?

  • Schwarzes Schaf
  • Eule
  • Cuba Nova
  • Haverkamp
  • Heaven

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Picasso Museum.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Münster in the future?

  1. Start looking for a room way earlier than your arriving in Münster.
  2. Look for a bike as soon as you arrived in Münster.
  3. Take part of the events organized by the university social support team. They are the best! (Facebook events)
  4. Don't miss the Fyal Stammtisch.
  5. Enjoy the sun when it's shining!
