What is the student life like in Moscow?

There are plenty of events for students in Moscow which take place every month at universities. They are sometimes sponsored by the government: soirées, festivals, concerts, etc… Russian students are very, very proactive; they love taking part in events like these, doing performances, organising parties… They are always kind to international students too

What is the cost of living in Moscow?

Moscow is a pretty expensive city to live in. You have to be prepared (it costs around £800-£900 a month).

What about eating in Moscow? Can you tell us your favourite places?

I love Russian food. For eating out, I would advise international students who don’t have lots of money to go to eat at Teremok (Теремок). It’s a fast-food restaurant, but nothing like McDonalds. The food is much better and hearty with Russian dishes available.

Which places do you recommend for going out in Moscow?

There are plenty of places for going out in Moscow, but face control and dress codes are still pretty strict so you have to watch out for them. Moscow clubs are very chic! I would recommend going to visit Красный Октябрь. It’s a place right in the centre; there are lots of restaurants, clubs, cafes, etc… And for something more chilled, you can visit Gorky Park (Парк Горького), the most well-known park.

What advice do you want to give to future Erasmus students in Moscow?

Don’t be shocked to see frequent gloomy and non-smiling faces in the street, on public transport and namely with people working in service roles… It’s normal in Russia; they don’t smile at everyone, but they are kind on the inside.
