What is it like to live in Monterrey? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Monterrey is a city in Northern Mexico and it is really close to the border. The city is in between mountains so the landscapes are beautiful and there are activities where you can go hiking or exploring la Huasteca or Chipinque. I highly recommend Matacanes if you are a person who love extreme activities.

What is the student lifestyle like in Monterrey?

The student lifestyle is really good. There are a lot of nightclubs and one of the most important and recognized universities in Mexico, Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM).

How much does it cost to live in Monterrey?

It varies depending on where you live. If you live in San Pedro you are in one of the most expensive municipalities in latin america. Services costs are 30% higher than in the rest of Monterrey and the nightclubs, restaurants, shops and ever groceries are significably more expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Monterrey? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult at all.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You are not going to find a lot of typical mexican food like in the southern states, still the most popular dish in here is cabrito and it is good. Beef here is good and you are going to find many places to eat it. Also the machacado con huevo is a typical breakfast in here and they are wonderful.

What places would you recommend visiting in Monterrey?

I would recommend to visit marco museum, barrio antiguo (which is the old part of the city), downtown monterrey, matacanes, chipinque, cola de caballo, and la huasteca.

I do not usually leave San Pedro but I've heard good things about la casa del obispado which is in another municipality. Also villa de santiago is close to Monterrey (about 30min car ride) and it is a must visit.

Is it good to eat out in Monterrey? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Food in Monterrey is really good. If you go to main entrance which is located in plaza san agustin and it is close to many hotels as the Camino Real, Safi, Quinta Real, etc. you can find a lot of good restaurants. Also in Plaza 401, located in calzada del valle (which is probably the prettiest street in Monterrey) you can find many places. If you are willing to eat good meat you should visit, el granero, la nacional, el gallo 71, la buena barra.

Also Grupo Pangea has many restaurants that serve you in a distinctive way. This group includes restaurants like Pangea, Chino latino (chinese-latin fusion), la felix, where you may find an amazing mole lasagna and vasto. These places have higher rates compared to other places.
