Milan from another point of view
This was my second time I went to visit Milan, but the first time for my cousin. She really liked her gift in form of the tickets for two trips – to Turin and to Milan. This is the story of that second trip.
Like I said in one of the previous posts, in order to let the city of Milan to make an impression on you, you need to start your visit from the very center, the Duomo. However, this I did not know because I was so fascinated the first time I came here that I didn't even think what could be the reason. So, we arrived by train to the central train station called Milano Centrale. The station itself is majestic with old high ceilings that gives you impression like it was not made for men but for giants. It is something to be seen!

We took a long walk to the Piazza Gae Aulenti and UniCredit Tower. This part of Milan is new and shiny with tall modern buildings covered with glass. These although impressive to me, did not amaze my cousin. I think this is because I already have seen the most beautiful parts of this city and for me this was like adding new layers. Now, having even more complete view of Milan, I was stupefied. However, to her it was just a bunch of modern buildings, nothing she hasn't seen before.
Next, we continued through street called Corso Como, passed by Porta Garibaldi and continued to the center. I could tell that my cousin liked the city and with every step was more fascinated. By the time we arrived to the main square, Milan growed on her. The astonishing Duomo, a city cathedral or more precise, a real work of art with spikes and statues of luminous white marble, is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture. The construction of this gigantic cathedral began in 1386 and was completed in 1805 because Napoleon wanted to be crowned as the king of Italy.

When you pass the streets with luxurious shops and boutiques, you come to the square called Scala, where one of the world's most famous operas, the famous Milan Scala, is located. Here, even people who are not fans of opera and ballet would find it hard not to enjoy themselves. Since it's one of the most famous operas in the world it is very expensive. In fact, in order to watch a performance, you would need to pay at least 250 euros and well in advance because, believe it or not, the seats are getting filled very fast.

Of course, you can not visit Milan without going shopping. For us, the famous fashion boutiques were as interesting as the best museums in this city, or maybe even more. Milan's boutiques and shops are among the best in the world. There are thousands of them and something for everyone's taste. And sales are not so uncommon. Don't miss streets like Montenapoleone, Della Spiga, Sant Andrea and Manconi and discover the best fashion brands in the world like Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Valentino and Versace.
