What is it like to live in Mikkeli? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I came to Mikkeli for studying and I am more than satisfied right now! I can say that this change from Saint Petersburg to Mikkeli is very significant. Even though the city is quite small, the life there is so peaceful and quiet.

What is the student lifestyle like in Mikkeli?

I would say that the student life is on a good level for this small city. For example, Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences always arrange different events for students to participate. There are plenty of events happening in the city centre. Moreover, there is a club Vaakuna and a bar Kellari, where students usually go patrying on Wednesdays and Fridays. Also students tent to entertain themselves without going anywhere, the home parties are the evidence of this.

How much does it cost to live in Mikkeli?

It is quite expensive, compared with other European countries for example. However not only Mikkeli is pretty expensive, but the whole Finland. However you can easily find good products for affordable prices.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Mikkeli? Is there any advice you can give?

If you are a student, there is a special organisation, called MOAS, which helps you with finding an apartment, but in different season of the year, whether it is a beginning of study year or just a period of time there will be different demand for apartments. I can say that it was quite difficult for me to get the apartment from this organisation because they didn't have available places.

But if you are going there just for couple of days to enjoy this city, you can find an appartment to rent.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

As I am from Russia, I find that food is quite similar to food we have in Russia.

What places would you recommend visiting in Mikkeli?

I recommend to visit the centre of the city, the highest point of Mikkeli from which you can see the whole Mikkeli as on your palm (i recommend to visit it at night when there are a lot f colorful lights in the city).

Is the nightlife good in Mikkeli? Where is good to go?

There is a club Vaakuna, bar Kellari - the most popular among students and other people + Mikkeli University has its own cafe Labra where events for students are also organized.

What advice would you give future students heading to Mikkeli?

As I try to stay healthy, I visit the gym which my university provides for free, also I do cross country skiing, there is a special made place for racers just near my house. also there are several places for skating in the winter, and in the summer you can go outskirts cycling.

Guys, try to enjoy every moment in this absolutely amazing small finnish city. People are kind, they always smile! Enjoy your life!
