What is it like to live in Maynooth? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I love the atmosphere in Maynooth that comes along with being in such a small, close-knit community. The town is not so big that you would get lost, but it's not so small that there's nothing to do. I would recommend living in Maynooth to any students, however it is very expensive.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maynooth?

Maynooth is very much a student town. It's a very small, quiet place during the summer, but once the 10, 000+ students flock in in September, the town comes alive. There's never a boring moment - whether you're on campus or not. Between clubs and societies, events, and the spectacular nightlife, you'll never fell like there's nothing to do!

How much does it cost to live in Maynooth?

The one downside to living in Maynooth is the cost. Accommodation alone can cost between €400 and €500 per month and then you have all your other expenses on top of that. Many people find it cheaper to commute.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Maynooth? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is very limited in Maynooth. You would nearly want to book a place a year in advance. Between the cost of living and the difficulty of finding accommodation, the majority of students commute. In fact, all my friends (myself included) commuted to university during our second year. I spent 4 hours on the train every day all because there was no accommodation! My advice is get your accommodation sorted as early as possible and if you can make sure you take a look at the place in person before you put down the deposit.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I have never really eaten out in Maynooth so I can't comment on the local cuisine, however, I do know that there is a wide variety of restaurants serving all different kinds of dishes so there is definitely something for everyone.

What places would you recommend visiting in Maynooth?

The only touristy place I know of in Maynooth is the castle (which isn't open during the winter months), however, because I've never been there, I can't recommend it. I would recommend travelling throughout Ireland - Dublin is only half an hour away by bus or train and many places are easy to get to on public transport. I would recommend doing the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way, and visiting the beautiful counties of Donegal, Leitrim and Wexford for some amazing scenery, great food, and unforgettable adventures.

Is the nightlife good in Maynooth? Where is good to go?

The student nightlife in Maynooth is really good and popular with many students in Dublin as well. Most students go to the Roost bar and the Cathedral (nightclub).

What advice would you give future students heading to Maynooth?

Make sure you choose the right accommodation and nothing else will matter. Maynooth is a wonderful place so enjoy your time there!
