My Erasmus Experience in Malaga, Spain by Sandra

Why did you choose to go to Malaga, Spain?

I chose Malaga for the sun, I didn't know anything about the city before going, but I have a friend who lived their for a few months when she did an internship and she convinced me to go. She described Malaga as a really nice, welcoming, party-loving and sunny city.

How long's your stay? What financial aid do you receive?

I was there for 10 months. The amount of money you get depends on what country you go to.

What's the student vibe like in Malaga?

There are evenings organised nearly every night! It's really party-central!

Would you recommend the city or university to other students?

Yes, I think that the city of Malaga is perfect for your Erasmus year abroad. However, I was a bit disappointed by the university.

What's Spain's food like?

There's a lot of fried dishes! The famous tapas are really good but not every day! There's the Plaza Atarazanas market with plenty of fruit, vegetables, fish and meat at really affordable prices!

Was it hard to find accommodation in Malaga?

No, word of mouth and Facebook help you find a home.

What are living costs like in Malaga?

A little bit expensive compared to prices in France.

What's it like learning the language there? Did you take part in a language course organised by the university?

I did a language course when I first arrived, which I found to be really helpful! I needed a little refresher course, however when I got to the university, I was quickly lost with the Andalusian accent!

What's the most economical way to get to Malaga from your home town?

Flying with Ryanair.

Where do you recommend to go out in Malaga?

Sala Gold, Malafama and Plaza Mitjana which has bars like Factory Copa, as well as Pedregalejo, Beachclub and Benalmadena.

And to eat in Malaga? What are your favourite places?

Restaurante Noviembre and Cafe Con Libros.

And what cultural places do you recommend going to see?

Mount Gibralfaro to witness a stunning sunset.

Any advice for future students going to Malaga?

Try to stay with Spanish people as much as you can!
