What is it like to live in Malaga? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Malaga is great. There are a lot of places you can go to spend your free time. The harbor pier is really nice, and there are a lot of shops and cafes. The city center is also a really nice place. Besides, the night life here in Malaga is awesome. There are a lot of clubs and it isn´t very dangerous to be outside at night.

What is the student lifestyle like in Malaga?

Depending on what you expect from your Erasmus the student lifestyle could be different. If you like better to learn about the culture, there are some museums you could visit and cultural places where you can go. Nevertheless, this is not Rome. Don't expect to find that many monuments, galleries or museums. However, if you prefer clubbing and the night life, you are gonna enjoy your time here a lot.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Malaga? Is there any advice you can give?

I think it could be relatively easy to find a place to stay but I don't think it's easy to find a cheap one. The apartments and rooms near the University tend to be expensive, and the ones that are cheap are not close to the campus and you need to use the public transport.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Everything you expect from the famous Spanish cuisine, you'll find it here. If you want to try the typical Spanish food you can try seafood, paella, tortilla, croquetas, tapas... There are many many options. However, if you prefer "normal" food, you're not gonna suffer either, there are tons of other places, burger and pizza shops, asian restaurants, american restaurants... You can find everything you want. There are also some places where you can find vegan food. There are many options.

What places would you recommend visiting in Malaga?

The old Castle in the hill from where you can see the skyline, the harbor, the museums... there are a lot of places, you just have to google it. However, if you prefer more natural places, I recommend going to the industrial estate where Ikea is, if you walk a bit you'll find the river shore where you can chill a bit. Just be careful, there aren't many people there. I might also recommend some towns outside of Malaga (the capital I mean, they are still in the province of Malaga).

Castle of Gibralfaro

I recommend visiting:

  1. Nerja
  2. Ronda
  3. Estepona
  4. Benalmádena
  5. Marbella
  6. Torre del Mar

The last one is a more personal recommendation, it's the town where I live and I love it, that's why. However, all of them are really beautiful.

Is it good to eat out in Malaga? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Near the campus of Teatinos you can find a place called El Refugio and it's great. You can find the typical Spanish "tapas" there, but I know best the restaurants in my town. If you visit Torre del Mar, you should definitely go to La Cueva, it's known in the whole Malaga and people from the capital usually go there, even if they have to drive for more than half an hour to go there and have dinner.

Is the nightlife good in Malaga? Where is good to go?

It is really nice. If you prefer to simply chill out with friends and have a drink a recommend the Plutarco Ave, the one close to the Teatinos campus, but if you prefer clubbing you should totally go to the city center.

I recommend:

  1. Gallery club
  2. Sala Gold
  3. Anden

But you can go wherever you prefer. All of them are close to each other, you just have to go to the city center and choose one.

What advice would you give future students heading to Malaga?

My advice is that you should enjoy it fully but also to study, cause it is really easy to get lost along the way here with all the clubbing and all the things people invite you to do.
