Erasmus Experience in Malaga, Spain by Natalia
Why did you choose to go to Malaga, Spain?
I chose to go to Malaga because of it's University program.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
about $700 from university, but the rest was all my personal savings.
What is the student lifestyle like in Malaga?
It is AMAZING! You are able to socialize with people from around the world and also with Malagueños. People are very social and we have to remember we are all in the same boat so just enjoy and go out.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Malaga to other students?
YES
What is the food like?
I just live out of tapas and they are cheap, great and tasty.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Malaga?
no, I just would extremely advise you to live in the city center near to La Plaza de la Merced. That is the place where all Erasmus students lived and hang out.
How much does it cost to live in Malaga?
living costs: 150- 300 Euros
Food: 20- 30 Euros per week
Transportation: 35 Euros per month or just sing up for the bici-malaga card and its only 7 Euros.
Party:
shots: 1 Euro Each or 10 shots for 7 euros
Entrance: 7- 15 Euros ( sometimes is free for Erasmus Students)
Taxi: $ 0! ( If you live in the city center you will never have to pay for a taxi, all clubs are around the city center, if you wanna go further the taxi would be at least 10 -25 Euros)
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, if you want to feel more confident about your Spanish, the university does offer a course that lasts for about three weeks before you actually start classes. Also, it is a great place to meet people and they are often the ones you will hang out with for the rest of your experience in Malaga.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Malaga from your city?
The cheapest way to travel its with either MSE (Malaga South Experience) or with Erasmus Community. They have great deals to travel in groups within Spain.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Malaga?
you must go to La Guarida, they have the cheapest Cuba litros, its about 6 Euros each Cuba litro and they have more alcohol than soda. Also go to Chupito Loco and Merced 14, Tortugas, they have really good deals for Erasmus students. If you want to go to dance I would recommend Theatro and SalaGold.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Malaga?
I can't really say a good restaurant because all I ate was tapas, but if you wanna go to a really good Tapas place go to 100 Montaditos and Rafts.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Alcazaba castle and Pompidou Museum.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Malaga in the future?
Enjoy and let yourself go! Be open and say YES to all the great plans and opportunities.
