What attracts you to living in Malaga? Do you recommend it? What's it like?

Malaga is a cheap city, but also a bit more expensive compared to other cities in Spain. The weather is amazing! We have sun and heat pretty much every day and sometimes in summer it can even be too hot and there isn’t enough wind to stay cool outside.

My city is characterised by the amount of bars that you will find and the gastronomy is also excellent. Specifically, the fried fish, especially the “espetos” (fried sardines on skewers) which are typical of the region.

The majority of clubs are in the centre so at night you can go to 10 different places without worrying about transport which makes your night out very easy.

So I definitely recommend the city for doing your Erasmus.

What's the student lifestyle like in Malaga?

Malaga is a city with a great atmosphere. You are sure to find great tapas and parties every day of the week.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Malaga? Do you have any advice?

The flats in Malaga are quite cheap but when you come here as a student, a flat in the centre of the city can be almost impossible to find. So the Teatinos area by the university is probably best. A friend of mine pays 250 euros a month including bills, in a block of apartments which also has a pool 5 minutes from our faculty at uni.

What’s the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?

As I am a lover of fish, I recommend Galician-style octopus, fried anchovies, "rosada a la plancha" (fish with garlic mayonnaise), sardine skewers etc.

What places do you recommend visiting in Malaga?

The cathedral, El Palmeral de las Sorpresas (walk along the port), the Alcazaba, the Buddhist Temple in Benalmádena, towns like Casares and Frigiliana, and of course, if you want to go to a beautiful, natural beach area I recommend Maro.

What about eating out in Malaga? What are your favourite places?

There are lots of tapas bars. The majority of young people go to Raff, Vaca Loca, El Chop as they're good and cheap. But if you want to enjoy really good food, the bars and restaurants in the Pedregalejo and El Palo areas are ideal for fish and paella. If you prefer other types of food there are restaurants that cater for this in the Los Montes area.

Where do you recommend for nightlife in Malaga?

The majority of young people like NATURAL, París 15, Gold, Teatro and Anden. Personally, I'm not a fan of these places, I prefer bars like Modernícola, Smiley and Velvet. Here you can enjoy cheap beer, alternative music and football.

Do you have any advice for future students in Malaga?

Prepare yourself for the humidity.
