What is it like to live in Madrid? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Madrid is one of those cities where you do not require to live absolutely close to the city centre. Good facilities are available all over. I would definitely recommend it for the experience.

What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?

If you are coming from a western European or similar country i-e. The free university life, Madrid will take you back a few years. The teaching practice is a bit more enclosed.

How much does it cost to live in Madrid?

You can live for anywhere between 500-1000 pounds depending on the kind of accommodation you get. Food is relatively cheaper. Metro journeys cost 1. 50€ for each journey and you can get almost anywhere.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Madrid? Is there any advice you can give?

Acquisition of a good accommodation depends on the languages you speak. I would say that it is almost impossible if you do not speak some Spanish. Otherwise there are many single rooms available in shared flats and houses.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You will quickly realise that there are a lot of Turkish and East Asian restaurants around which are relatively cheap. Pizza in Spain is a bit disappointing.

Is the nightlife good in Madrid? Where is good to go?

The nightlife here is more about eating and drinking outside rather than going to a club. This might be disappointing for some people.

What advice would you give future students heading to Madrid?

If I have to give one advise, it will be to take some Spanish lessons. Everything will be easier if you speak their language.
