Experience in Madrid, Spain by NOELIA
What is it like to live in Madrid? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Madrid is a good place to live. You have a lot of choices of entertainment, and everyday you can do something different. You can visit lots of museums, that are free if you're a student.
What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?
In my case, I wasn't an Erasmus student in Madrid. My lifestyle was go to class from Monday to Thursday. In my weekends, I went to party. On Thursdays, the clubs are free before 12. In Fridays and Saturdays I went to party to the "Bajos de Argüelles", where entrance is free, or we went to my house to chill.
How much does it cost to live in Madrid?
It depends. In my case, I stayed in a room that cost 230€ plus bills. But living in Madrid is expensive if you don't look at the offers properly. My friends normally pay 350-400€ to rent a room.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Madrid? Is there any advice you can give?
It's easy to find accomodation, but difficult if you want a cheap room of flat. Some useful websites are Idealista or Milanuncios.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
I like Spanish food a lot (maybe because I'm a Spanish girl, but the food is the food). My favourite dishes are "croquetas", "tortilla española", "lentejas", "albóndigas", a typical Madrid's dishes "bocadillo de calamares"...
Enjoy our food, it's really good.
What places would you recommend visiting in Madrid?
Museums. Madrid have a lot of museums that are incredible: Museum of Prado, Real Palace...
Is it good to eat out in Madrid? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I don't eat out in Madrid a lot because I like cooking at home. I go to "100 Montaditos" because it is a cheap place to eat or drink with friends.
Is the nightlife good in Madrid? Where is good to go?
It's good but expensive if you don't have a lot of money. If you want to have a good night, not very expensive, you can go to Bajos de Argüelles or Moncloa, Tribunal, Malasaña, or go to Sol, where there are a lot of people with offers of drinks and shishas.
A good place to go on Thursdays is "Space Monkey", a cheaper club with good music and offers.
What advice would you give future students heading to Madrid?
Enjoy your experience, travel a lot because Madrid has a good situation in the centre of Spain to move. Spanish people are sociable and funny, and I'm sure that they will be able to help you with everything you need.
