Experience in Madrid, Spain by Marta

How do you find living in Madrid? Do you recommend it? How is it?

It's an easy to get around city; with a multitude of amenities, shops and a great transport network. The options for leisure and free time are also very ample; from cinemas, theatres and museums... to clubs and bars.

How is student life in Madrid?

There is a good student atmosphere due to the large amount of universities in the city; as many public as there are private.

How much does it cost to live in Madrid?

An individual room is around 300 euros. I think it's quite good, comparing it to the rest of Europe. Then the youth transport pass currently comes to 20 euros a month, also a bargain. Food shopping isn't excessively expensive either.

Did you find it difficult to find accommodation in Madrid? Can you give any advice?

It was easy to find accommodation. There are plenty of websites advertising and there are also posters in the universities of people looking for a flat to share and of people who are renting out flats.

How is the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is fantastic. There's nothing like Spanish food haha! I love ham, paella, a good Spanish omelette or a calamari sandwich... :)

And to eat in Madrid? Can you name your favourite places?

There are several Telepizzas, Pans and burger places... I recommend the restaurant Clarita on the Corredera Baja for something more formal. Everything is very good and not very expensive. 'El Bistró de la central' on the Calle del Postigo de San Martín 8 is also very recommendable, where you can buy books and attend concerts or conferences as well as eating.

Which places do you recommend to go out to party in Madrid?

There are many clubs in the Moncloa area and there is also a lot of atmosphere from the bars and pubs in the Huertas area.

Any advise you want to give to future students in Madrid?

Well, nothing. They will welcome you with arms open here. Come and enjoy all our city can offer to you (which is a lot).
