Experience in Madrid, Spain by Marina
What is it like to live in Madrid? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I don't live in the city centre, but near Madrid. The city has lots of things to do. Everyday there is a performance, some films or activities to enjoy oneself. You can't get bored here. It is easy to walk around the city althought there are lots of cars. This is the only problem of Madrid, cars and pollution.
What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?
Students life in the area of Ciudad Universitaria (where the main university is) is great. There are lots of students here and it is a city made for young people.
Also, public transport is much cheaper if you are under 26.
How much does it cost to live in Madrid?
Madrid is not a cheap city, but is cheaper than some European capitals as Paris or London. You can easily find good menus around 7-10€, public transport unlimited for 20€ for people under 26...
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Madrid? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't know, because I do not live in the city. But around the university area there are always room to rent. The best is to share a flat with other students. Just ask in the university.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Typical food in Madrid is chocolate con churros, cocido madrileño (some stew with meat and vegetables) and bocadillo de calamares. Also there are many nice restaurants in the area of Lavapies or Malasaña, with different kinds of food in a good prize.
