What is it like to live in Madrid? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would recommend living in Madrid to everybody looking for a city experience, especially if you want to experience a city that is still original and virgin in its ways, and if you wish to experience another culture that is still pure.

Madrid is still fairly untouched by tourists and foreign gentrification, which is interesting as it's currently the third most populous city in Europe. it's populated by born and bred locals and that is where it's appeal is for me.

For that reason, learning some degrees of Spanish is almost certainly a must and that, in my opinion, propels it deeper into a true experience of living in another culture.

Not to mention the most typical elements of Spain's culture are abundant and easy to find in the capital city like Flamenco and ancient ceremonies.

The city is elegant and has a unique energy at night. Madrid truly glitters and enchants, I'll admit it doesn't often blow my mind in terms of architectural diversity but that doesn't mean that city isn't beautiful.

As testimant to the quality of life of here, I have lived by myself here for two and a half years now, and now plenty more who have called this place their home for over a decade.

What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?

Student life is brilliant. There are regular meet up's and a variety of events every single day of the week for all kinds of people, the city has a lot of offers.

As for education, the city is riddled with universities and libraries as education and knowledge are apparently adored and highly respected qualities here.

How much does it cost to live in Madrid?

it costs on average 500 euros per month I would say to live in the most desired spots like Malasaña, Lavapies, Anton Martin and La Latina, including bills. In the south of the river the prices are more reasonable and it's decently connected in terms of transport. However, prices for renting have now jumped 30 per cent in the last two years but there are still plenty of good deals to be found and plenty of great houses.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Madrid? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it's not difficult, now there are many apps, such as Badi where you can create a profile specifically for finding accommodation and I have used several Facebook groups to find houses, the groups are easy to join by with just a few keywords.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

It's highly international here in terms of the food available like any city. I am forever on the hunt for the best omelettes in Madrid but my true weakness are croquettes. In lavapies, you'll find a great curry and there are a multitude of fine authentic African restaurants and of course South American too.

What places would you recommend visiting in Madrid?

Naturally, the Royal Palace and El Retiro. But other gems I've discovered include Parque Juan Carlos (far, but one of the most creative and original parks I've ever seen), Skybar 44 on Gran Via for the view of the city (don't be fooled by the entrance), Parque de Oeste, La Piedreza about by the mountains, the city of Toledo, one of the spanish original capitals and El Matadero.

Is it good to eat out in Madrid? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

El Benteveo is the coolest bar around. El Rincon de Esteban near Banco De España is beautiful and traditional, you won't find better service anywhere.

Is the nightlife good in Madrid? Where is good to go?

La Coquette Blues bar is my choice, small but it´s always a good experience there. Cafe Berlin is beautiful too. OFF La Latina is a wonderful place and Galili Galileo is probably my favourite place to take in a concert comfortably.

What advice would you give future students heading to Madrid?

Find private classes to improve your spanish language and try to immerse yourself into the opportunity of learning one of the most spoken languages. If you get a free weekend, then you should really explore the mountains in the north. Enjoy Madrid.
