Why did you choose to go to Madrid, Spain?

The weather and that it was still in Europe.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It's 3 months. I get 200 euros per month from my school.

What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?

A lot of students go out, most of the time to "discotecas". The lifestyle isn't so strict like in Belgium. Don't expect that a Spanish person will be on time.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Madrid to other students?

Yes, because it is big so everybody can find something they like.

What is the food like?

Around 2pm it's lunch when they have a big meal. Most of the time they have dinner around 9pm. They eat "tapas" most of the time. I love the food! And the wine!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Madrid?

Choose your place very carefully! Try to get a accommodation with an agency. So if something happens they can help you.

How much does it cost to live in Madrid?

Depends where in Madrid you live. Sol is expensive but Pacifico is cheap.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel in Madrid?

Subway or train.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Madrid?

Somewhere you can get easy! The Subway and train drive from 5am until 23:30 (later on the weekends). Not everywhere there is a nightbus. But Sol is nice, opera,...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Madrid in the future?

1. Don't expect that Spanish people speak English, they only speak Spanish.
2. Ask someone who has been to Madrid if your accommodation is in a good neighborhood.
3. Ask for a VISA or MasterCard @home.
4. Get a smartphone with gps, you will need it, and enjoy your stay!
