Why did you choose to go to Madrid, Spain?

I wanted to live somewhere lively with lots of different places to visit and experience.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

1 year, I receive an Erasmus grant from my university as well as a student loan. This covers rent and other expenses with money left for eating out, partying, travelling, etc.

What is the student lifestyle like in Madrid?

Lively, fun, busy, lot's of activities and you can never get bored!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Madrid to other students?

Yes!

What is the food like?

Lot's of different types to suit all. Typical tapas bars are great but also lots of great Mexican restaurants, Italian, Japanese, etc.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Madrid?

No, I found the accommodation online before I arrived, you just need to make sure you have a chunk of money for the deposit as can be quite costly!

How much does it cost to live in Madrid?

My rent is €500 including bills. You can find something for a lot cheaper though depending on location/ size of room. Anywhere between 300-500€.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

At my university there is a language course throughout the year and also trimestral. Most uni's also have an intense course before starting! Can be difficult to begin with but you slowly notice improvements!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Madrid from your city?

Plane, I fly to the airport then take the the metro - you can get a monthly pass for which zone you need and it is fairly cheap (in comparison to London prices at least! ).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Madrid? And for eating

Sol, Malasana, Chueca, La latina, the most obvious being Kapital.... there are many places!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The palace, Cathedral, Gardens, Prado and Reina Sofia, various towns around Madrid, the parks (Retiro, Casa de Campo, Capricho etc)... there are many more.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Madrid?

Living with 8 people was one of the best ideas for me as you instantly have lots of friends to go sight seeing, partying and eat with!
