What is it like to live in Maastricht? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

In my opinion, Maastricht is the best (student) city in the Netherlands. I would definitely recommend it to everybody. The city has a good atmosphere, a lot of places to party or just have dinner/drink at. Besides that, it's a city with beautiful surroundings and a big international scene. Everything happens by bike because the city isn't too big, but if you don´t like to cycle there is good public transport as well. Maastricht is just great.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maastricht?

There are a lot of places to go out and you can go until the early morning. Other than that there is a big international scene, where most parties are organized by ESN. Also the restaurants in Maastricht offer discounts to students usually. It's a great city to study in.

How much does it cost to live in Maastricht?

You could make it as expensive as you want to live in Maastricht. Really depends on how much you go out, what you eat and stuff like that. You will save money because you can do everything by bike though.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Maastricht? Is there any advice you can give?

No it´s not that difficult to find accommodation in Maastricht. An easy way for example is to type in Facebook: "Housing Maastricht". You will find a lot of pages where people offer or search for housing in Maastricht, mostly students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is good and in the supermarkets you could buy things from all countries. Of course, when you're in the Netherlands you are gonna have to try stamppot, drop and stroopwafels though!

What places would you recommend visiting in Maastricht?

I would recommend St. Pieter, a beautiful nature area with caves and all, not far from the centre. Other than that I love the city centre and the park.

Is it good to eat out in Maastricht? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, there are a lot of options in different price classes. A lot of students go to KIWI because the atmosphere is good and it´s cheap.

Is the nightlife good in Maastricht? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is just GREAT in Maastricht. Before 02. 00, go to the Platielstraat. My favourites there are the Clinique and the Twee Heren, but there are more nice bars there. After 02. 00 the Alla, or the market are nice! At the market I would recommend the Feesfebrik or Defile!

What advice would you give future students heading to Maastricht?

Arrange a cheap bike and add the ESN Facebook page. Other than that, Enjoy! But that will be easy in Maastricht!
