What is it like to live in Maastricht? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Life in Maastricht is really good. Gastronomy especially. There are tons of little bars and restaurants, offering special beers and typical food from the province. It has a really cosy and warm atmosphere.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maastricht?

The student life in Maastricht is really good, however, going clubbing in Maastricht is a little different. Most of the Dutch students are in student associations, which is why life in the city centre starts a little later. Drink something in one of the cosy pubs before you go clubbing!

How much does it cost to live in Maastricht?

Housing in Maastricht is quite costly compared to for instance most of Italy. Average rent is about €375 per month for a nice sunny room. Food however can be found for cheap, especially fruit and vegetables in the city centre market.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Maastricht? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not too difficult if you know where to look and if you speak Dutch. Your best option is to look through the facebook 'rooms/kamer/zimmer in Maastricht', there are a lot of English adds on there as well. Kamernet can also be useful if you are handy with google translate or speak Dutch.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is very varied because there are equally as much international students as Dutch students. I quite like the traditional Dutch winterdishes as my grandmother makes them, but good luck getting the recipes from the older people! The food that the restaurants serve is generally well priced and good quality, Maastricht is really a food city!

What places would you recommend visiting in Maastricht?

Just walk through the streets of the old centre and enjoy it! The vrijthof and the market square are very nice, so are all of the churches! The wednesday and friday markets are awesome and the caves in a town close are also totally worth your while.

Is it good to eat out in Maastricht? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My favorite place of all time is Dadawan close to the station. A little pricey but very very nice is il bacaro. Further more there are many places around the market and vrijthof that are worth visiting.

Is the nightlife good in Maastricht? Where is good to go?

To start go to a bar or pub and have a special beer. If you feel like dancing the night away, go to the brightly coloured clubs on the market square!

What advice would you give future students heading to Maastricht?

For the girls: forget about your high stiletto's in Maastricht, walking over the pavement with those is impossible unfortunately, I can guarantee you you will break something :(... Further more, try to get a bike! It is much faster than public transport and much much faster than cars, cars are useless in Maastricht.
