Erasmus Experience in Maastricht, Netherlands, by Antonio

Why did you choose to go to Maastricht, Netherlands?

It is close to where my parents live, Eindhoven, there are many good degrees and lots of students.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I do not have any because I am not registered as a foreign italian.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maastricht?

It is very nice. It´s very easy to find new friends and there´re a lot of parties.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Maastricht to other students?

Definitely yes.

What is the food like?

There´s a lot of international food: hamburgers, tacos, etc. That is why I suggest you to learn how to cook.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Maastricht?

Yes, after the beginning of June is basically impossible to find an available house, however it depends on the money that you have.

How much does it cost to live in Maastricht?

If you cook yourself not that much, but of course if you want to go out every night it will be expensive (more or less 75 euro per week I´d say).

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Apparently there are but it will be very hard. My English is quite good so I speak only in english with my friends. Everyone can speak English here.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Maastricht from your city?

Easiest and most economical is bike. You can reach any place in 15 min. When it gets colder buses are also availables and are not very expensive.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Maastricht?

You can easily have fun in the clubs in the city center.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Maastricht?

Still quite hard. I haven't been to a good resturant yet. I heard there are some though.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Maastricht in the future?

The introduction week is very nice and fun, however if you still don't have a house look it up first.
