Gabi's Experience in London, United Kingdom
What attracts you to living in London? Do you recommend it? What is it like?
London is a unique city and, for me personally, is the city of great opportunity!
Without a shadow of a doubt, living in London is one of the things that everyone should have on their to-do list.
How much does it cost to live in London?
Living in London is quite expensive, but, at the same time, the salaries there are usually decent.
From time to time, you can find some really good offers - you just need a little bit of experience and to keep your eyes open.
Was it difficult for you to find accommodation in London? Can you give any advice about this?
Yes - finding a good place to live in London isn't at all easy. My moving average has been more or less twice a year for the last 5 years.
Anyway, with a little bit of luck, you will find a good place. There are lots of Spanish people helping other Spaniards to find accommodation, like me, for example. It's much easier this way, as the language barrier can prove challenging. Watch out for scams - there are lots of people ready and waiting to take advantage of others. If it seems too nice to be true, it won't be.
What is the food like in the United Kingdom?
Fish and chips is one of the only quintessentially British dishes.
In terms of eating out in London, there are lots of options available in a variety of cuisines from all over the world that you can choose from. There are a couple of restaurants that I go to quite frequently, like Wagamamas and Nandos.
Which places do you recommend visiting in London?
Without a doubt, Shoreditch is one of the best areas of the city to visit. Camden Town, Portobello Market, Westminster, Greenwich, The British Museum, and the Natural History Museum are also some of my favourite places to go to.
And eating out in London? Can you mention your favourite places?
As I mentioned earlier: Wagamamas, Nandos, Wetherspoons, and Wasabi are my preferred places to eat out at, and all of them are relatively cheap. Sticky Fingers and Big Easy are a little bit more expensive, but they have very good offers during the week. The latter two are both American restaurants, which means that the portions are absolutely huge.
Which places do you recommend for nightlife in London?
The Big Chill Bar in Shoreditch is one of my favourites, especially in summertime. Fabric and Ministry of Sound are the nightclubs that you have to go to at least once during your time in London. But, wherever you go in London, you will always find somewhere where you can have a beer irrespective of what day of the week it is.
Is there any advice that you want to give to future students in London?
Enjoy your time in this amazing city to the absolute maximum!
